A letter to me
I saw this on someone else's blog and thought I would copy. Even though nobody really reads my blog... It was kind of a good self reflection for me! :)
Dear Middle Schooler Jackie: You are definitely going through a major awkward phase. You have crazy hair and glasses... yet you are still managing to hang out with the cool people. Stop trying to fit in. Don't give in to that stupid trend of the huge bang curl. It doesn't work with your curly hair and looks bad. Avoid Basketball. I know all of your friends are playing it, but to be perfectly honest you just aren't very good. You will be the bench warmer for your whole basketball career and not even get to play with any of your friends that you joined the team for. Plus, you will be trying to play basketball before school and crush almost every bone in your foot. It is not fun... avoid basketball. Also, don't date boys in middle school. Seriously, nobody can drive, it is lame, don't even try. But you will anyway and you will cry over stupid boys. Just have fun, hang out with your smart cool friends and enjoy being a drama nerd!
Dear High School Jackie : Stick with soccer... you will have the most fun playing soccer. Like I told you in middle school, avoid basketball. Hug your grandpa more. He will pass away suddenly during your freshman year. You don't get to say goodbye because you were in basketball practice. Should have avoided basketball. Again don't bother with boys, nothing good comes out of it. But, you know that boy that you are mean to in your Journalism class... well you should be nicer to him. He is your future husband. Let loose and have little more fun with your friends. After graduation you will all move to different sides of the country and world and you will loose touch with most of them. Oh yeah, and your BFF... isn't really your BFF. She is kind of meanie and is jealous of the time you are spending with your future husband. She is stupid, ditch her early to save yourself from too much sadness.
Dear Freshman in College Jackie : Yes I know you were sheltered in high school... but really Tequila is not meant to drink straight from a bottle. Avoid the cimarron crew...they are bad news... and DON'T join that sorority... you will quit in a couple months anyway. When you are driving home for Christmas break... don't speed and take the turns slowly otherwise you will get into a serious car accident. Oh, and don't get too attached to ENMU. You will transfer to UNM after your first year. But don't regret it, you will have made some life long friends there and learned some valuable life lessons.
Dear UNM college Jackie : Please have more fun. Yes I know college and work run your life... but really hang out with your friends more and relax. The real world comes fast after graduation so you better enjoy college while you still can. Oh and don't get lazy your Sr. year. Actually try to go to that stupid freshman level class that you found out last minute you had to take. Getting a bad grade in there messes up your GPA... but don't fret you will still graduate Magna Cum Laude.
Dear 22 year old Jackie:
Congratulations on getting engaged to the man of your dreams! You have quite the catch! You don't need 10 mos to plan your wedding... you can and should really do it in about 5 or 6. Yes, it is a possibility to plan it that fast and if you don't... your beloved grandmother won't make it to your special day. She tries like hell, but passes away 2 months before your big day if you plan it in 10 mos.
Dear 23 year old Jackie:
Your grandma will pass away this year. See her as often as you can and know that she was holding on longer than expected just because she wanted to see you get married. She loved you like her 5th child. You will have a hard couple of months, but you have a wedding that helps you move forward. You will have a gorgeous December wedding in your home town. Don't freak out at all at your wedding.. it turns out perfect. Oh and don't over plan your honeymoon! When you come back, don't worry about work. Everything happens for a reason. You will soon be back to where you want to be and doing what you love.
Dear 24 year old Jackie:
Enjoy your time with your husband! This year will be one of your best. Go camping more often and be really thankful for the great job that you have. This town that once felt strange and weird will start to feel like home and you will no longer feel like a stranger, but a part of this awesome community.

A quarter of a century
Monday was my birthday and I tragically turned a quarter of a century. ;) I am not too disappointed, I have a feeling 25 will be a good year to me! For my birthday my husband and I went to Las Vegas. It was my very first trip to sin city and we had an absolute blast. It was a much needed vacation for the two of us, and I realized it was the first vacation we have done as a couple since our honeymoon! :) (I already can't wait until our next one! lol)
As I turn 25 I took some time to step back and look at my life, and boy am I blessed! I NEVER in a million years would have thought that at 25 I would be married to the man of my dreams, have a beautiful home, 3 adorable furry children, a job that I love getting up and going to everyday and amazing friends and family.
